Description
Freedom is personified as womanhood. Here the artist invites the viewer to contemplate the notion of freedom using a group portrait of four women. The faces of the subjects are downcast and the colors — while varied — have a muted hue. Within the context of the artist’s native Rwanda, there are more women in the legislature than is the case for anywhere else in the world. To what extent does that phenomenon expand freedoms or constrain it for themselves?
