Description
Distant Relatives was featured in the solo exhibition, Missing Thread: The Story of Ngoie, held in Atlanta, Georgia by Elliston Fine Art. In this painting, we see Willy employing bold colors and perspective to create contrasts and depth for the subjects. The lace-like pattern that appears in other paintings in this series shows up twice in this work: like a tattoo on the primary subject, and like a halo for both subjects — drawing attention to the primary subject by use of an arrow. The monochromatic hue of the secondary subject invites the viewer to contemplate this person as a shadow of the self, or perhaps as an ancestor.
